Summer MT News

Postby Nayr » Mon Jun 07, 2010 11:04 pm

Hey everyone,

The mission trips are underway for this summer! I had the opportunity (in between work) to help out at the training camp as both teams learned together. We've already heard some of the things that God did at training camp including helping Royce heal and make it in good time to join the Alaska team. Also, a stomach virus managed to mingle its way into the team, leaving half the team sick to the stomach. Yet, now as they leave, it is pretty much gone, only having been about 2 days! We may continue to pray for my sister, Rachel, and the Voth's daughter Audrey who were the only two still feeling bad when they left.

Ok. Updates :!:

The Alaska team is in the air! If everything went as planned, they Alaska people are on their plane now from Salt Lake City to Anchorage. They'll be landing at about midnight their time (or 3am central time) making for a very long day. Pray they'll get rested after a hard week and a few long days so that they are ready and prepared to tackle the largest state in the union!

The Mid-West team is not in the air! Thankfully. No, they are actually in Bartlesville, Oklahoma doing volunteer work at Voice of the Martyrs in the morning and running a workshop in the afternoon. Tomorrow will be day number two. Pray that they can learn a lot from this first stop about how their workshops and Bible studies should run. I gather that the first day was rough because they were underprepared since so much time had been taken by sickness at training camp. Pray the Bible studies will come together powerfully and effectively and that the team can continue to grow together in their early struggles. They were extremely excited about getting on the road, so pray God will sustain their passion!

From the MWMT directors, Mr. and Mrs. Brown:

"Hello from Laramie, Wyoming!

God has answered prayers daily as we have asked for focus, strength, and joy. Today, we were very weary as we met for devotions at 9:00am. Ashley Brown led us to study having a Godly balance in our lives. At the end of the time digging into the Word, we took 30 minutes to pray for enthusiasm and joy for the day. It was such a blessing to see how attitudes and faces lightened. Our workshop Bible study today, about dying to ourselves from Gal. 2:20, was one of the best so far. We are sure that God proved Himself faithful to His promise of wisdom when we ask.

Thank you for your daily prayers because we are seeing the results and God is increasing our faith in Him.

Praises:
-great host homes and workshop coordinators
-a group of teens willing to work and learn
-beautiful country to view and enjoy
-awesome opportunities to share Jesus' love and Biblical teaching to groups of children and teens
-lots of opportunities to serve in communities
-the team has kept each other accountable to die to self every day
-prayer team holding us up to the Lord

Prayer:
-cold going through the team (getting better now)
-weary with the travel and sleeping in different beds
-freshness in teaching with two more opportunities to share our Bible study
-that the truth of Gal. 2:20 (being crucified with Christ and allowing Him to live through us) would so fill our hearts that we commit to die to self daily
-grace to keep car sickness away from the team on our long rides (He's been gracious so far)

Thank you for your support in prayer!"
Be joyful always! ~ I Thessalonians 5:17

Thanks Jessica! Yes, the team is in Wyoming right now. I talked to my mom this evening and she said that what they're doing in Cheyenne is going well. They enjoyed Laramie and loved Colorado.

I also talked to my sister Emily in Alaska today and found out that they are in the town of Tok (pronounced Toke). They've been using it as a base and going to villages in the area every day (that area of Alaska is populated largely by native americans).

All the teams will be back a week from today. Then I'll have my family back again!

This will be my last update for the Alaska and Mid-West mission trips. Maybe when they get back, some of them will be able to get on and tell some of their own stories 8-)

Currently, the Mid-West team is driving through Kansas on their way back here to Branson. They left Cheyenne yesterday morning and drove all day yesterday to a church they stayed at before finishing the drive to the home base today. They are doing several service projects and other mission tripy stuff tomorrow and then flying back to their own mission fields on Thursday.

The Alaska team is back in Missouri! I guess they'll have to call themselves the "mostly Alaska team" since they've been in Missouri for two days 8-) They flew back to Kansas City, Missouri on Monday and they've had a workshop there that they have been running. They will be making the 4-hour trek back down south to Branson late on Wednesday (tomorrow). Then they will fly out with the Mid-West team on Thursday.

I get to see my family again! It's been a while and I'm excited 8-)
